Byzantium
Some may ask, how was Byzantium so successful? My view on this question is simple. Lots of riches, massive walls and a moat for protection, and lasting a great amount of time all played into making one empire a very successful one. This empire was Byzantium and it is remembered very
well. These three key aspects all lead into one another and left this empire with a mark on history forever.
The first major aspect of Byzantium being so magnificent was its riches. Byzantium had great riches until its fall. Losing their riches played a big role in the fall of Byzantium. The rulers of Byzantium had these riches and used them wisely to build a powerful empire. In its fall,
Byzantium had lost all its riches because of the ruler.
These riches allowed the rulers to build a well protected empire. The main
ruler to contribute to the protection was Constantine. When his empire was threatened by Attila and The Huns, Constantine used some of the riches to build the first massive wall of Constantinople. The wall was very protective, but an earthquake caused the wall to break, opening up a window of time for The Huns to attack. Constantine falls back to the riches to rebuild Constantinople’s protection. Constantine gathered the people to rebuild the massive wall. He also added two more of these
massive walls and a moat for protection. This fast repair made Constantinople more powerful and protected than ever before.
Both these prior aspects played into the long lasting empire of Byzantium. Byzantium is an empire that will forever be remembered. The empire was so powerful and successful that it has made its mark in history forever. The riches and protection were the reason Byzantium thrived for so
long. If Byzantium hadn’t lasted the astonishing amount of time it did, it wouldn’t have been remembered like it is today.
Byzantium truly was a magnificent empire, maybe even one of the most magnificent. This great empire was fortunate to be blessed with the riches and wise rulers it had. The riches were the base of the amazing empire. The wise empires just built of these riches and lead this empire to be one of the best. This is what I believe to be the reason for Byzantium’s success. I wouldn’t say Byzantium was just lucky, because wise decisions also played a great role off of the blessing of riches.
