Shakespearean Sonnets by the Students at the CYHSB

Clickest thou below to read some excellent Shakespearean sonnets from the students at the Cooper Yeshiva High School for Boys.
Elan Cooper:
To death be those inside familial plight,
Under the outstretched arm of mercy’s plea,
Mercutio and Tybalt find the light,
And gone be he who must now run and flee.
Alone be she who waits for fortune’s fool,
Until he nimbly comes before the day,
But he must leave to avoid any duel,
To Mantua he goes with slight delay.

And forced be she who must marry Paris,
And stuck be she in a predicament,
The Capulets decide for her dismiss,
“Disloyal” calls the girl of innocence.

The star-crossed lovers face their hardest trial,
And final answers are found in a vial.

Gabe Itkowitz:
A fight breaks out and Tybalt’s sword is drawn
A murderer who’s thought to be a friend
And a lover boy is caused to be gone
Forces the plans of some to bend.

Juliet is busy over the living or the dead
But Paris doesn’t want to wait another night
So he went to Capulet in her stead
A forced wedding on Juliet was impolite.

Romeo was stopped from committing suicide
So he can face his bride like an adult
He wants a wedding night so he does revise
And a sad goodbye is the end result.

The Nurse betrays her bride when the end is near
And this awful act causes the bride a tear.

Tani Finkelstein:
Two newlyweds look forward to the night
To dwell in their new mansion of a love
But joys be tears, when play turns into fight
As fortune’s fool sheds feathers of a dove

As news of banishment cascades through town
The bride weeps loud, the groom falls in despair
A dream, once vivid, sinking to be drowned
Farewells will be exchanged, much pain to bear

The star-crossed lovers wish to not depart
But dawn brings in the day, and lets life out
The chirps of larks, not nightingale, break heart
If this encounter be their last, lies doubt

As greedy parents wish wedlock in haste.
A love so rare so fine, may be erased.

Chaim Gersten:
A fight was brewing with swords being drawn,
came Mercutio to defend his friend.
Romeo wished that their fighting be gone.
His words unheeded and one met his end.

Romeo’s best friend was lost and was dead.
Raging off in the night after Tybalt,
with a vengeful, unreasonable head.
All lead to one more murder and assault.

Juliet sits there thinking of the news,
of her dear Romeo’s disastrous plight,
put her lovestruck self in a state of blues.
A marriage arranged  soon after this night.

The vile wedding to Paris draws near,
our precious Juliet is left in tears.

JJ Kampf:
To he be woe who goes under the arm,
and slaughters him who’s dear to fortune’s fool.
For fate hath come around and punished him,
by that same fool hath killed him with the tool.

The Prince who made the great and bold decree,
those die who brawl unto and on the streets.
But no regard was held to this request,
Mercutio and Tybalt slain alike.

Mantua now the Prince has forced the fool,
to go and find his soul out in the cold.
This star-crossed love has never seemed so dead,
and Paris needs the love of Juliet.

With haste the bride tries now to salvage love,
with sleeping night she dreams of love so pure.

Sam Lulky:
The story changed when Tybalt’s blade was drawn.
A blade then passed his arm and killed his friend.
Romeo felt like he could not live on.
What shall become of this sad story’s end?

Romeo’s anger wanted Tybalt dead,
his anger would kill Tybalt in the night.
He pierced him with a sword made of sharp lead.
He knew he messed up when he saw the sight.

Stunned and Shocked, Romeo sits there and chews,
Banished was he, and Romeo thought why?
He hid with Friar, the nurse came with news.
Romeo went to her and said goodbye.

We all knew that the end would soon be near,
Oh this story will bring so many tears.

Mark Fertel
It all began when Tybalt drew his sword.
‘Twas the Montague blood he did long for,
That caused him to ignore the Princes word,
And stab Mercutio through what he wore.

But when Romeo saw his friend stabbed,
He filled with rage and returned the favor.
It was in anger the two sides had gabbed.
Poor Romeo, longing for a savior.

When Juliet heard of this tragedy,
She became sad and cried for days and days.
For her tears were enough to fill the sea.
Romeo had fled, his spirit not raised.

Will Romeo return for his true love?
We shall find out here, all that was above.

Efraim Wiener
Advice was lost in flame when swords were drawn.
A friend or foe not told the truth, can’t ment.
Two names with pain both shamed, esteem is gone,
The plague is set, the clouds of gray descend.

The hole not wide, but wide enough, he bled,
His eyes were clouded, anger swells, no light.
She wept, the sky let loose, her empty bed.
A cell held answers, ready for a light.

The lady cries until he sits beside,
He runs the father comes, a sad result.
She cries again, a time to break her ties,
The cell awaits with someone to consult.

Much Sorrow kills the newfound love with tears,
One exiled, other blessed, hurt grows fear.

Gary Goldmeier
The battle starts when two long swords are drawn.
No matter who your rival friend or foe,
You have to duel until one fighters gone.
When it is finished friends will feel the woe.

Romeo’s friend would have seen his last match,
because the men had fought until the death.
Mercutio said it was but a scratch .
Later on tybalt took his final breath.

The next morning he had to leave the bed.
They announced their love and said their goodbyes.
Then Romeo said they can take his head.
She watched him leave with tears in her eyes.

The fatal end is coming to a close.
In the streets the blood of friends will soon flow.

Caleb Milobsky
It was the hottest of days and the feud was strong.
Montague vs. Capulet, only death can come.
Tybalt, kills Mercutio, of Romeo’s will he thought wrong
Romeo seeks revenge, the result leaves the Capulets glum.
The Prince sends Romeo into exile for his crimes.
Leaving behind his wife Juliet, betrothed to Paris.
One final kiss is all they desire before the sad times.
Romeo makes his way to their secret meeting on the terrace.

Tis time for romeo to go to Mantua.
Without Romeo, Juliet if forced to marry.
She would  rather be with a tarantula.
Parting is such sweet sorrow for our lovers, even a little scary.

The thought of not having her Romeo near.

Leaves our poor sweet Juliet in tears.
