Shakespearean Sonnets by the Students at GMSG

Clickest thou below to read some excellent Shakespearean sonnets from the students at the Goldie Margolin School for Girls.

Mr. Brame asked his students to write a prologue for Act III of Romeo and Juliet in sonnet form. Here are the results.

Chaya Klein-
Tybalt , of cats, comes out with his sword drawn,
And Romeo goes forth to save his friend.
When he arrives Mercutio is gone,
Killing Tybalt would lead to Romeo’s end.

The prince finds out about the raging fight,
And Romeo is set to be banished.
He flees to Friar’s cell to mourn his plight,
To kill himself is what he really wished.

But the nurse told him of Juliet’s cries,
So he returned to comfort his new wife.
They do not wish to say their last goodbyes,
But they know they must continue on in life.

As their final meeting draws to a close,
Will they see each other again? Who knows?

Kayla-
These two have love like a mother of a fawn,
And they both dread that it will end.
So they keep loving after some have gone.
These two lovers will go up and ascend.

Through peace and tragedy they never give up.
Tybalt and Mercutio have been dead.
So lets continue to keep looking up.
Father Lawrence has warned us of our heads.

Fights and enemies lead to these who died.
problems have arisen and things aren’t swell.
Romeo and Juliet are on the same side.
Progression is key and they avoid hell.

Eternal love is what makes them happy.
Life or death won’t make a change sadly.

Tamar-
The wicked Tybalt has his sword drawn,
Then Romeo steps in front of his friend.
The Prince of Cats clobbers him then is gone.
Mercutio suffers a wound and no mend.

The nurse hurries to say the Prince is dead.
Juliet anxiously awaits the night.
Romeo sneaks over to who he wed,
And stays until the first sign of daylight.

Yet Capulet has plans of  his own,
And thinks Juliet should marry so soon.
Juliet would rather live alone,
Because seeing Romeo makes her swoon.

Wonder and passion pull the lovers near,
But their romance only will end in tears.

Yehudit
Marcutio and Benvolio speak.
They do not leave as their enemies come.
For vengeance on Romeo, Tybalt seeks.
A peaceful cousin Romeos become.
The sword has been drawn by a loyal friend.
He falls, which makes the peacemaker upset.
Two cousins fight a battle to the end.
Capulet falls putting one’s life in bet.
But being banished puts love in a test.
The joyful love is bringing them sorrow.
Their first night together being their last.
Them dreading the moment called tomorrow.
And soon the fine Paris she will marry.
The young girl left feeling sad and weary.

Rena Osdoba:
How love’s the biggest virus in the world,
Seemly good but brings horror in the end,
The revenge of Romeo has finally unfurled,
Who will ally and survive? Who will ascend?
Benvolio, the peace maker is not satisfied,
Paris is waiting and has been from the start.
Romeo’s only option- to go and hide,
Juliet mourns for relatives close to heart.
Yet, what seems like chaos brings some joy,
But is it the last they will see?
He claims he is in love but he’s just a boy,
A small meeting spreads an abundance of glee.
The end is sneaking up ahead,
He may be gone but is he dead?

Eliana Schlesinger

Despite the word of the Prince, fight was drawn.
Of Prince Tybalt and Mercutio friend.
Came hero Romeo and both were gone.
Romeo and killer, his marriage bends.

Her husband banished, her cousin is dead,
Juliet waits for Romeo her light.
Together they wish to spend their lives ahead,
Unaware, this is their one and only night

But morning strikes and Romeo must be gone,
Flee, far away, because of his assault.
Stay, Juliet says, you hear the song wrong.
Although he wants to stay, death is the result.

Thinking their future together is near,
Romeo leaves and Juliet is in tears.
